Imagine that you are walking
through your local library; your eyes zigzagging at a dizzying pace as you make
your way down aisle after aisle desperately try to find something that grabs
your attention. Sidney Sheldon. Stephen King. Michael Crichton. Robin Cook. John
Grisham. And as your eyes shift from one author to the next, something catches
your eye. Picking up the book, you smile as you see something you have never
seen before. It’s a novel with a typically ambiguous title at the top of the
cover. Less that one inch below the title is the name of the author. And the
author. And the author. And the author. No less than twenty five authors
prominently displayed on the front cover. Suddenly your heart gives a little
jump as you notice the name of an author halfway down the front cover.
It’s you.
This
can become a reality. This project, if done right, can be of historical
significance. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure if it can be done
right. I am, however, excited and willing to toy with this idea.
The
real problem that I came across has been the total lack of commitment to any one
story. Instead of contributing to an existing story, people are starting new
ones. In principle this is perfectly fine when we have the amount of
contributors to justify it. When that happens, I would love to see thousands of
stories. Alas, that is just not the case right now.
A
second and equally troubling pattern has also emerged. There are some
contributors who are content to skim the storyline and then add a couple of
lines to the story that are not only completely out of place, but have so many
spelling mistakes that it becomes painful to read.
I
therefore beg of all members, new and old, to help make history by way of
imagination, creation and devotion for each storyline.
Don’t
forget to enjoy the process.
